Manitou Lake Recreation is a perfect example of that. The reservoir, fed by Trout Creek, is closed to motorized boats. Located at 7, feet in elevation, this recreation area is surrounded by ponderosa forests that are home to mule deer, elk, and mountain lions. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, and paddlers and anglers on the shore share the view of Pikes Peak standing majestically in the background.
This area is known among bird-watchers — expect to see redwing blackbirds among the cattails in the marshy portion of the lake, and watch for raptors — red-tail hawks and occasional bald eagles - catching the air currents overhead. Bears and mountain lions like to visit this small lake — watch for footprints on the sandy shore. An asphalt bike trail, the Centennial Trail, connects this recreation area to campgrounds along Colorado Highway 67, and can take cyclists or hikers all the way to the town of Woodland Park.

There is no electricity at the pavilion. No generators, amplified music or public address systems are allowed. Be bear aware; keep all food out of sight in approved containers or locked inside your vehicle and remove all food from area after eating Day Use Only!! Manitou Park Lake Trail is a 2. The main activities available on the trial include walking, hiking, running, and biking. The trail is mostly flat and great for all skill levels. To access the main trail, start at the Pavilion area and head toward the lake and pick up the trail near a small dock.
From here, head south and hike along the western shore of the lake. You will pass over a small footbridge near Trout Creek. This area is home to lots of wild grasses, birds, and small wildlife.
Camping season usually begins in May and runs through early September. Limited sites are reserved by calling and can be made days prior to arrival.
